Feeding a Crowd: Martin Wine Cellar Deli

by Emily on October 8, 2010

There’s really nothing better than a great deli, and New Orleans has it’s fair share of really excellent sandwich shops. From Italian cafes (like this one), to shops that specialize in hard to find cheeses and cured meats (like here and here), and all the po-boy shops that are scattered throughout the city, you really do have an excellent range of sandwich options to stuff in your mouth. But when it comes to places that really have it all, there’s one deli that somewhat beats out all the others. Martin Wine Cellar on Veteran’s Boulevard is not only Jefferson Parish’s premier wine store, but also one of the most sought after lunchtime spots in the city. Their menu covers everything from cheeseburgers to roasted pork loin sandwiches, filling salads, and special weekday “bistro” items, such as lamb shanks and pecan crusted trout. A slice of one of their decadent cakes is sure to make you smile, and for just about anything they’re dishing out, they’ve got the perfect wine to pair. The Martin’s staff is friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, and most importantly, passionate about serving their loyal customers. Oh, and did I mention they cater?

*Martin’s has three other locations: Uptown on Magazine Street, on Perkins Road in Baton Rouge, and on Highway 190 in the Village Shopping Center in Mandeville. The location on Veterans Boulevard in Metairie is the only one that serves food.

Busy Saturday lunch crowd. The norm at Martin’s.

Rows and rows of wine and other spirits. Knowledgeable staff will assist in helping you make the perfect selection.

Sena Salad: Oven roasted chicken, blue cheese crumbles, pecans, and golden raisins tossed in a Tabasco pepper jelly vinaigrette.

Mediterranean Salad: Arugula, salami (my friend substituted chicken), roasted red peppers, black olives, pine nuts, and Parmesan in a Champagne vinaigrette

Prepared pasta and potato salads

Deli counter with a wide selection of meats and cheeses. They also sell assorted foie gras, pâtés, and caviar.

Beautiful multi-layer cakes and need I say to check out the size of those turtles!?
